Stephen studied architecture and civil engineering at Temple University (Philadelphia, USA) and received BA and BS degrees respectively. He joined the design industry first in civil engineering, then construction management, and later, signed on to architecture and interior design. He was engaged by Simon Properties, the USA’s largest commercial developer where his responsibilities included mix-use developments. In 2000, he was hired by Gensler, world leading architects, where he presided over the entire design process of large-scale commercial complexes and gained insights into project format planning and cost management.
He later obtained a master's business certificate from Harvard University (Cambridge, USA). In 2006, he joined Morgan Stanley China and his responsibilities included the funding, development, planning and operation of thirty-two real estate projects throughout China. With a passion for design and accumulated experience in real estate development, Stephen joined InterContinental Hotels Group (IHG) in 2010 as a design director.
His leadership was needed for all aspects of IHG hotels (pre-planning, architectural design, style positioning, interior decoration, lighting design, artwork, construction, etc.) for the entire IHG branded hotel portfolio. Additional responsibilities included operation processes, developing tracking software, and governing brand standards.
